Senior Construction Inspector/Construction Inspector Summit Design and Engineering Services (office in South Boston, VA) is recruiting for Construction Inspectors (all levels) to inspect all phases of construction on highway construction, bridge and maintenance projects located in the South Boston/ South Hill, VA area. Responsibilities: The ideal candidate must be able to act and make decisions independently for routine project issues and foster a partnering relationship with contractors, the general public and other project stakeholders. A Construction Inspector will train and supervise trainee inspectors and Monitor the work on contractors to ensure quality control and contractor compliance of moderate complexity under the supervision of senior inspectors. An Inspector at this level must perform daily record keeping of project activities and prepare monthly project estimates. Skills and Qualifications: CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR LEVEL: High School diploma with a minimum of three years of relevant experience and/or an Associate's degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology. SENIOR CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR LEVEL: High School diploma with a minimum of six years of relevant experience and/or an Associate's degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology. Working knowledge of mathematics in both algebra and geometry. Proficient in the use of iPad, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox and/or OneDrive. Ability to work independently, use own judgment and make decisions. Good written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of roadway, structure and bridge construction methods, materials, standards, construction symbols and terminology. Working knowledge of state and federal environmental, safety, EEO guidelines and regulations. Ability to read and interpret roadway, bridge and structure plans and contract specifications. Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 12 hours a day on occasion. Must have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb and balance and to work in confined spaces and heights with adequate vision to perform tasks. Must be able to lift and carry up-to 50 pounds, on occasion. Ability to work outside in various weather conditions. Must be willing to work nights and weekends as needed.
