Senior Park Ranger Estimated Hiring Range: $60,107.42 - $70,560.88 Based on Experience Park Ranger II Estimated Hiring Range: $53,271.04 - $62,535.56 Based on Experience Park Ranger I Estimated Hiring Range: $45,109.45 - $51,260.74 Based on Experience What would a typical day on the job be like? What work would I do? Are you passionate about working outside, public interaction, and caring for the City’s natural, historical, and cultural resources? This may be the position for you! Park Rangers with the Parks and Recreation Department, patrol the City’s 36 parks and watershed properties to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and policies governing the use of these facilities. They ensure the safety of park users and protect the integrity of City resources and properties. Park Rangers research and facilitate environmental and historical education programs and provide information to visitors; serve as frontline managers for park operations to include camping, boating, fishing, picnic shelters, and permitted special events; and serve the community during natural disasters. How much money can I make? The estimated hiring ranges based on education and experience are as follows: Park Ranger Senior: $60,107.42 - $70,560.88 Park Ranger II: $53,271.04 - $62,535.56 Park Ranger I: $45,109.45 - $51,260.74 What are the qualifications for this position? A Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Park Administration, Forestry, Wildlife Management, Environmental Science, Civil War History or a related field; AND / OR Park Ranger Senior: 3-5 years of experience as a Park Ranger with the Newport News Park System. Park Ranger II: 1-2 years of experience as a Park Ranger. Park Ranger I: Education requirement Or have an equivalent combination of education and experience. All levels of this position require the applicant to be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, satisfactory results from a background check, sex offender registry check, and pre-employment medical evaluation with controlled substance screening; must obtain Conservator of the Peace status within the first year of employment to include completion of a certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy and associated field training. Required Qualifications:
