Estimated Hiring Range: $53,271.04 - $62,535.56 Based on Experience GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES Under general supervision, this position is responsible for inspecting contracted building, renovation and demolition projects for quality control and cost analysis measures. Reports to a Construction Inspection Supervisor. There are two (2) levels of Architectural Inspector distinguished by the level of work performed and the qualifications of the employee. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs inspections of building, renovation and interior demolition projects under contract with the City to ensure conformance with City plans and specifications, construction methods and materials; recommends field changes to appropriate department staff; participates in resolving change orders; conducts final site inspections with other responsible parties. Serves as liaison between the project architect, engineer and contractor. Maintains daily log to reflect accurate records for all job-site activities and inspections; determines percentage of work completed and amount of materials used; reviews pay estimates for approval. Assists in pre-bid and pre-construction meetings to review drawings and specifications; makes recommendations for compliance with state and local regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Architectural Inspector – Requires an Associate’s degree in Architectural Engineering or a related field and 2 - 4 years experience in architecture or construction management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Architectural Inspector, Senior - Requires an Associate’s degree in Architectural Engineering or a related field and 5 - 7 years experience in architecture or construction management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Virginia Department of Transportation Inspector certifications in Asphalt Field, Concrete Field and Soils and Aggregate Compaction, as well as Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (VDCR) certification as an Erosion & Sediment Control Inspector are preferred.
