RESPONSIBILITIES Employees in this class are responsible for engineering and skills to a variety of UOSA construction programs. Project engineering, management, and communication skills are paramount as this class will serve as the representative for very complex projects. Work assignments are broad in scope and require engineering acumen to make professional and technical decisions of appreciable difficulty. The work is performed under the general direction of the Capital Improvements Section Manager or the Director of Technical Services. EXAMPLES OF WORK Construction Project Engineer III • Manages facility expansions/modifications. • Reviews technical plans and specifications. • Develops and reviews design reports. • Coordinates input from owners and end-users. • Reviews project schedules, pay applications, and other documents. • Participates in permitting and regulatory processes. • Provides problem-solving input to contractors and consultants. Construction Project Engineer II • Oversees facility expansions/modifications. • Reviews and develops technical plans and specifications. • Manages input from owners and end-users. • Documents and reports projects’ progress. • Manages project schedules and related documents. • Participates in routine progress meetings. • Coordinates testing, training, and startup. • Obtains easements for construction projects. Construction Project Engineer I • Oversees facility expansions/ modifications. • Reviews and develops technical plans and specifications. • Develops contract documents. • Manages input from owners and end-users. • Documents and reports projects’ progress. • Coordinates and conducts routine progress meetings. • Manages project schedules and related documents. • Participates in design selection and equipment layout. • Coordinates testing, training, and startup. • Obtains easements for construction projects. Senior Construction Project Engineer • Oversees all facility expansions/modifications. • Reviews and develops technical plans and specifications. • Develops contract documents. • Manages input from owners and end-users. • Documents projects’ progress. • Conducts routine progress meetings. • Manages project schedules and related documents. • Participates in design selection and equipment layout. • Coordinates testing, training, and startup. • Obtains easements for construction projects. • Coordinates with other project managers.
Required Qualifications:
REQUIREMENTS • Construction Project Engineer III: o BS in Engineering from ABET accredited four-year college or university required; BS Civil Engineering is preferred; or any combination of education, experience, or training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification is preferred. Some experience in civil engineering and construction projects, including planning, designing, and constructing water or wastewater facilities. • Construction Project Engineer II: o BS in Engineering from ABET accredited four-year college or university required. BS Civil Engineering is preferred; or any combination of education, experience, or training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. EIT certification required. Considerable experience in civil engineering and construction projects, including planning, designing, and constructing water or wastewater facilities. • Construction Project Engineer I: o BS in Engineering from ABET accredited four-year college or university required. BS Civil Engineering is preferred; or any combination of education, experience, or training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. EIT certification required. Considerable experience in civil engineering and construction projects, including planning, designing, and constructing water or wastewater facilities. • Senior construction Project Engineer: o BS in Engineering from ABET accredited four-year college or university required. BS Civil Engineering is preferred; or any combination of education, experience, or training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Minimum of three years' experience with UOSA’s Capital Improvement Section at the Senior Construction Project Engineer level. EIT certification required. • Must be able to handle the physical requirements of the position to include extensive walking, bending, stooping, climbing of stairs and ladders, and lifting/carrying up to 30 pounds. • Possession of a vehicle operator's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
