Target Hiring Range: $41,627.30 - $47,303.75 Based on Experience GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES Under close supervision, this position is responsible for locating and marking sanitary sewer and stormwater infrastructure. Reports to the Operations Supervisor. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Provides utility locates for crews maintaining and repairing sanitary sewer and stormwater infrastructure to include laterals, mainlines, force mains and storm drains; reviews site and utility maps to assist in identifying the location of related pipes or structures that require marking. Operates pick-up trucks, metal detectors, probing rods, Rigid sr20 utility locator hand and base units and a variety of hand tools. Inputs data and monitors the Miss Utility computerized system. Ensures the safety of City equipment, private property, and others by following proper safety procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE • Wastewater Services – Knowledge of sanitary and stormwater utility systems. • Equipment Operation - Knowledge of the proper procedures for operating, inspecting and maintaining assigned equipment. • Safety - Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to equipment operation and general construction work. Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing the operation of equipment. REQUIRED SKILLS • Interpersonal Relationships/Customer Service – Develops and maintains cooperative and professional relationships with employees, representatives from other departments and organizations, and the public. • Judgement/Decision Making –Uses logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and evaluate situations and exercise good judgment to make appropriate decisions. • Computer Skills – Utilizes a personal computer with word processing, spreadsheet and related software with reasonable speed and accuracy. REQUIRED ABILITIES • Communication – Ability to listen and understand directions, information and ideas presented verbally and in writing. • Time Management – Ability to plan and organize daily work routine. Establishes priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time-management methodology • Utility – Ability to read site and utility maps and trace metallic and non metallic pipe underground. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Requires a high school diploma and 1-2 years of utility locating work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires satisfactory results from a pre-employment medical evaluation. Requires a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Must successfully complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System Certifications within one year of employment. The job is considered Essential Personnel and will be required to work during and following natural disasters and emergency situations. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work. • Some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. • Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (20- 50 pounds). SENSORY REQUIREMENTS • Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, odors, depths, textures, and visual cues or signals. • Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURES Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, temperature and weather extremes, or traffic hazards.
