Wildlands Engineering (Wildlands) is seeking an individual with a passion for environmental restoration to join our growing company in Knoxville, TN. The advertised position is a full-time, in-office role, but alternative arrangements will be considered. Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineering Intern (EI) is strongly preferred, and at least two years of experience in a consulting firm is required. We also encourage experienced environmental designers to apply. Desired skillsets include stream and wetland restoration design, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, AutoCAD Civil 3D design and grading, construction oversight, understanding of easements, property boundaries and survey, and understanding of vegetation and ecological processes. This position will work with project managers and multi-disciplinary team members to design, permit and oversee implementation of ecosystem restoration and water resource engineering projects. Projects include a diversity of ecosystem restoration and water resource engineering and may include design of streams, wetlands, and watershed improvements; dam removal and aquatic organism passage; hydrologic and hydraulic models; flood resiliency planning and design; and/or watershed planning and retrofit stormwater best management practices (BMPs). This position will require occasional overnight travel and outdoor fieldwork. Required Qualifications:
Required Qualifications • A four-year degree in biological systems, civil, agricultural, ecological, or environmental engineering, or related field with design experience. • Undergraduate degree in engineering or similar. • Licensure as an Engineering Intern (EI) (or in progress) required; PE license preferred • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, particularly with alignments, profiles, corridors, and surface modeling. • Experience with hydraulic, hydrologic, and/or watershed modeling. • Experience preparing technical reports, construction plans and technical specifications, construction cost estimates, and construction administration. • A general understanding of ecological processes relevant to riparian and wetland restoration in the southeastern United States. • Experience with ArcGIS and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D. • Experience with the preparation of construction documents, including construction plans, erosion control, bid estimates, technical specifications, and technical reporting. • Proficiency using Microsoft Office, including Excel. • Ability to work in an independent position with cross-office coordination across the southeast. • Must have a valid driver’s license. Physical Demands • Part of the job requirements and the physical demands are performed in outdoor weather conditions with frequent exposure to wet/humid conditions and extreme heat or cold. Other adverse factors may include exposure to ticks and poison ivy. Lifting supplies or equipment up to 50 lb.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications • A graduate degree in a related field. • Experience with stream and wetland mitigation. • Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain within six months of hire. • Experience with design of ecosystem restoration projects, aquatic organism passage (AOP) implementations, and/or dam removal projects. • Understanding of the Tennessee Stream Quantification Tool (TN SQT) data collection and analysis. • Previous experience with Conservation Easement establishment and design.
