About the Role Goshen Farm seeks an experienced Estate Gardener to oversee the comprehensive care, design, and management of our diverse grounds. This role encompasses formal gardens, naturalistic landscapes, mature specimen plantings, and specialty collections—all maintained to the highest standards of beauty and sustainability. What You'll Do Horticultural Excellence Design, install, and maintain formal gardens and naturalistic plantings across the estate Provide expert care for mature English and American Boxwood collections Steward specialty areas including the Camellia Garden (Camellias, Rhododendrons, and companion shrubs) and mature crepe myrtle allée with perennial borders Plan seasonal planting schemes and implement long-term landscape development Maintain estate approaches, pathways, and roadways to exacting aesthetic and safety standards Estate Stewardship Enhance existing plantings with sustainable, diverse additions Ensure horticultural practices align with current sustainability best practices Manage orchards, shoreline vegetation, and specialty planting areas Conduct regular inspections and implement proactive plant health programs Administrative Oversight Maintain detailed plant inventories, maintenance schedules, and operational records Track invoices, expenditures, and contracted services Prepare proposals for grounds enhancements and capital improvements Coordinate with vendors and manage project budgets
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in horticulture, garden design, and sustainable land management Strong expertise in plant care, tree health, and soil science Excellent recordkeeping, planning, and organizational abilities Budget management and vendor coordination experience Strong communication skills with ability to understand and execute estate vision
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of irrigation systems design and maintenance Experience with historic or specialty plant collections Background in formal garden design and maintenance
