500-Year Forest Foundation - Virginia (Richmond, Charlottesville, Lynchburg vicinities)
The 500-Year Forest Foundation, a statewide forest conservation nonprofit, seeks a part-time Executive Director with the potential to move to full time. We are seeking a dynamic, organized leader to head our growing organization. Responsibilities include promotion, fundraising and oversight of all operations of the 500YFF, including our old-growth forest creation and conservation programs. The successful candidate will have experience in strategic planning and implementation, financial management, and fund development, including grant research and writing. A passionate, dedicated, and creative executive director will lead the organization to expand its mission of preserving mature woodlands that will become the old-growth forests of the future.
Required Qualifications:
Reporting to the Board of Directors and working with Board committees, the executive director will also: • Coordinate the strategic planning process to ensure long-term organizational sustainability; • Create the fundraising plan and lead fund development, including grants and developing funding necessary for sustainable operation; • Direct the Forest Coordinator to secure new forests, ensure easement compliance, conduct baseline environmental surveys, conduct invasive species work, and manage a successful summer internship program; • Maintain excellent relationships with 500-Year Forest owners, all partner organizations, and the land conservation community; and • Manage staff including hiring, performing employee reviews, setting goals/expectations, developing and maintaining personnel policies. Significant technical expertise with Google applications a must.
Preferred Qualifications:
A successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree or higher in business administration, public administration, natural resources or a related field. The position requires the ability to work independently; have demonstrated oral and written presentation skills; be technologically savvy with MS Office and social media apps; and have a good driving record (The 500YFF reimburses at the IRS mileage rate).
